Johnny McGirr was presented a Credo award by Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns, Tyrone Chairperson Martin Sludden and former Tyrone Chairperson Roisin Jordan at an awards ceremony in Garvaghy on Thursday night past.
The Tyrone County GAA’s Credo Awards are given to club members who have provided long-term voluntary service to their clubs. The awards were established in 2017 by Roisin Jordan, the then County Chairperson.
Comhghairdeas to Johnny and all the recipients – and thank you for your many years of service to our Club and Community.

Johnny McGirr served on the Errigal Ciaran Executive Committee continuously for 30 years, before stepping down in 2023.
Affectionately known as Wee Johnny, when we think of him, one phrase always comes to mind “he is a doer, not a talker”.
Johnny operated as Head Steward in Dunmoyle over many years, while he also doubled up as an active committee member during that time. He has a great ability to get the best out of people, is impossible to say no to as he himself led by example, and he never asked anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself.
Away from Dunmoyle, when Lotto was being collected 52 weeks of the year – Johnny was there.
When Ulster Final and All Ireland Final tickets were being distributed – Johnny was there.
When Errigal and Tyrone home comings needed organised – Johnny was there.
And when at committee meetings, if someone did need to speak up and do what was right – Johnny was not found wanting.
A life long supporter of Gaelic Games within the Errigal Ciaran Parish, he has a great love of the game and the craic that sits alongside it.
Johnny always carries out his duties with a smile on his face and – as he says himself – he may have stepped down from the committee but he hasn’t gone away, and his warm, friendly presence around Dunmoyle will be very welcome for many years to come.
